According to Condé Nast Traveler, Charleston is “historic and lively and has been transformed into one of America’s most delightful cities. No American city has improved so dramatically in recent decades and kept history alive.” Charleston is truly a gem among cities. This city boasts some of the oldest and most beautiful parks and gardens in America.

Charleston is situated in what's called the Lowcountry. It's the county seat and is located on a peninsula between the Cooper and Ashley Rivers, near the Atlantic Ocean. Charleston is located about 90 miles from Savannah, Georgia, and sits almost halfway between Washington, DC, and Miami, Florida.

Easy living, culture, and a mild coastal climate make Charleston an extraordinary destination for vacations, retirement, and relocation! Magnificent architecture, landscaped gardens, international cuisine, and a thriving arts community give Charleston the charm of the Old South.

This port city offers world-class golf, incredible shopping and dining opportunities, and a multitude of cultural events. You’ll also find outstanding Charleston accommodations, including quaint hotels and motels, charming bed-and-breakfasts, cozy inns, and waterfront vacation rentals – not to mention prime real estate opportunities!

The Charleston coast has so much to offer: beaches, golf courses, more great restaurants than anywhere else, and plenty of history. Charleston is for a lifetime … your lifetime!

Wagner Creek, Dunes West

In the opposite direction, I-526 takes you to Daniel Island, which has been home to the Native American Etiwan tribe and early settlers who farmed and created some of the most productive plantations in the South. In 1947, it was sold to the Guggenheim family of New York, who used it for cattle grazing and as a hunting retreat. Since 1997, Daniel Island has been owned by the Daniel Island Company, and it continues to be developed in accordance with the master plan established by the Guggenheim Foundation. Though it is within the City of Charleston, Daniel Island has its own unique flavor. Surrounded by water and marsh, it is a place where the feeling of downtown and neighborhoods merge. Daniel Island is home to companies, such as Blackbaud and Berenyi Corporations, and the Family Circle Tennis Center, which hosts the annual Family Circle Tennis tournaments, now the Volvo Cars Open.
